Al Foster Trail & Trailhead Closed
Due to the flooding of the Meramec River, the Al Foster Trail and Trailhead are closed until further notice.  The trail sustained excessive scouring in several areas and repairs need to be completed before it is safe for use.  Information will be posted on the City's website (www.cityofwildwood.com) when the trail and trailhead are re-opened. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Tree Seedlings Still Available
There are still many tree seedlings available for free at City Hall.  If you didn't have the opportunity this past week to come pick some up, please stop by next week.

The City has five (5) different species of tree seedlings available for residents.  The trees will be given away at City Hall, during normal business hours - Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please be able to provide proof of Wildwood residency. Once the current supply is gone, they will not be re-ordered until next year.  The available species are:
  • Norway Spruce
  • Redbud
  • Bur Oak
  • White Oak
  • River Birch

Just stop by City Hall for your trees! Questions? Email Kathy Arnett

Old State Road Underpass Rescheduled - Again!

The weather is again not being cooperative.  With rain this past week and more predicted next week, the construction of the underpass at Old State Road has again been pushed back a week.  This project will not begin until the week of April 7th.  This timeframe is again weather dependent. Click the link below for more information, including a map of the road closure.

We apologize for any inconvenience the road closure may cause.
Apples to Zucchini: Healthy Meals for Happy Kids
The City, in conjunction with St. Louis Children's Hospital, is offering a class called Apples to Zucchini: Healthy Meals for Happy Kids.

During this 90 minute class, parents will learn how to provide healthy meals and snacks for their families with the help of a registered dietitian from St. Louis Children's Hospital. Topics include portion sizes made easy, stocking your pantry, milk vs. juice vs. soda, and sample menu ideas.

The class is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and the cost is $5.00 per adult.

This Week's Q & A...Pedestrian Crossing on State Route 100?
information provided by the Department of Public Works

Q. Why is the light to cross State Route 100 at Taylor Road so short? We love to walk over there, but have to run to get across the street before it turns red -dangerous with 3 little kids.

A. The traffic signal timing at the intersection of Route 100 and Taylor Road is controlled by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Due to the length of this crosswalk, MoDOT has indicated that the pedestrian signal was designed for two phases: one phase to cross to the center median and a second phase to continue to the other side of the highway. While there is a small area in the median to wait, most pedestrians feel very uncomfortable standing and waiting as 55mph traffic drives by.

The character of Route 100 changes from a commercial highway to a limited access freeway as it enters Wildwood. Recognizing the pedestrian barrier Route 100 has created, the City of Wildwood constructed a pedestrian bridge over Route 100 about 1/2 mile east of Taylor Road, which is linked to the Taylor Road and beyond via the Wildwood Greenway Trail System. If you are uncomfortable crossing Route 100 at Taylor Road, this pedestrian bridge may be a better route to consider.

Is That Allowed? Code Enforcement Question of the Week...

Q - Can I dispose of my yard waste in the woods next to my house?

A - NO.  In accordance with City Ordinances, Section 210.120 "Litter" and Section 230.020 "Prohibited Practices"; disposing of any waste at any facility or any location which is not approved by the City of Wildwood and the Missouri Department of Natural Resource is prohibited.  Unfortunately, staff frequently witnesses residents disposing of their yard waste in the very areas the City prides itself on protecting. These areas should remain pristine, so the residents of the City can enjoy the natural, undisturbed, wooded areas.  Please, do not dispose of yard waste in the wooded area(s) next to your home and if you are aware of someone who is, contact City Hall at 636.458.0440.

Have You Ever Wondered? So Ask...
Is there a question about Wildwood that you've wanted to ask, but haven't bothered with calling City Hall?  If you're wondering, someone else probably is too.  So, now's the chance to pose the question and get the answer.  The weekly e-newsletter, now provides the opportunity to submit your questions.  They will be answered by the appropriate staff person and posted in future e-newsletters.

Submit your questions via email to Kathy Arnett. The answers will then be posted in future e-newsletters.
