Old State Road Underpass Construction Update
The construction of the tunnel under Old State Road, as part of the Hamilton-Carr multiple use trail, will begin on Tuesday, April 8th.  A temporary traffic signal will be installed at Rue de La Salle and State Route 109.  Please visit the link below for more information on this project, as well as a map of the detour area.

We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary road closing may cause and appreciate your patience while we increase the safety along our multiple-use trails.

Car Seat Safety Check

Do you think you have your child's car seat in correctly? His or her life depends on it! Over 80 percent of the car seats inspected at car seat checks are installed or used incorrectly. Come to this event at the Old Pond School, between 9:00 a.m. amd 12:00 noon, and trained car seat safety experts from St. Louis Children's Hospital and St. Louis County Police - Wildwood Precinct will check your infant, convertible or booster seat, show you how to install it yourself and answer all of your questions.

If during the inspection, it is determined your child's seat needs to be replaced, we will have new, high-quality seats available for purchase at a discounted rate.

This Week's Q & A...Will we build a Rec Center?
Information provided by the Department of Planning and Parks

Q. Is Wildwood ever going to build an indoor recreation center?  I know there's been talk of it, and we filled out a survey a year or two ago.  Other cities around us--Chesterfield and Ballwin, all have great recreation centers and programs.  We are stuck paying non-resident fees to use all of their great facilities.

A.  The committee of citizen volunteers, who recently completed the Action Plan for parks and recreation facilities and programs, considered a recreational complex as part of its discussions, particularly after over 50% of the 3,000, randomly-sampled households identified it as "essential or somewhat important." After considering the support in the community for it, against operating, maintenance, and construction costs, availability of funding sources, possible partnerships with other communities, and competing needs, the committee agreed a recreational complex would not be a major priority in the next five (5) to ten (10) year period. The volunteers preferred to focus on parkland acquisitions and the development of neighborhood parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, and an outdoor swimming pool complex. However, if a major funding source is established, such as a parks sales tax, in the City of Wildwood, the potential development of a recreation complex could be reconsidered.

Did You Know?
The Citizens Committee for Park Progress completed an Action Plan, which was adopted by the City Council.  This Action Plan provides recommendations for the next ten (10) years in the area of parks and recreation in the City.  This plan can be reviewed online at the link below:
Is That Allowed? Code Enforcement Question of the Week...

Q - When is a permit required?

A - There are many home-related projects that a resident can perform to improve or maintain their residence and property that do not require a building permit, but many residents often are not sure, when they begin their planning stages.  The link below provides a list of projects that do not require a building permit; however, some of them will require municipal zoning approval.  It is suggested that prior to starting any project, other than cosmetic improvements, that you contact either Code Enforcement Staff or the Department of Planning for a determination if a permit is necessary and, if so, what type.  Remember, the more information that is provided to staff, the easier it is for them to give an accurate response.

Have You Ever Wondered? So Ask!
Is there a question about Wildwood that you've wanted to ask, but haven't bothered with calling City Hall?  If you're wondering, someone else probably is too.  So, now's the chance to pose the question and get the answer.  The weekly e-newsletter, now provides the opportunity to submit your questions.  They will be answered by the appropriate staff person and posted in future e-newsletters.

Submit your questions via email to Kathy Arnett. The answers will then be posted in future e-newsletters.
