Movie Night - 8 Days Away....
Join us for the first Wildwood Movie Night on Saturday, May 17th and see Bee Movie. The movie will start at 8:35 pm.  The City will provide popcorn, candy, beverages and the movie all free of charge.

Click the link below for more information.  The location of this event will be in the Town Center Plaza.
Pond Road Closure

Due to the weather, Ameren has not been able to complete all the work at the Pond Road Bridges.  Pond Road will need to be closed at one location on Monday, May 12 to allow Ameren to complete the utility work.  The road will be closed at the bridge just north of the Pond Athletic Association Ballfield.  Crews may also be working at the first bridge south of Rieger Road, but the road will not be closed at that location.  Pond Road will be closed between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:00 pm on Monday, May 12.  This work is (again) weather dependent and the messages on the boards will change if the schedule needs to be modified.

Thanks for your continued patience.

Is That Allowed? Code Question of the Week...

Q - Does the City of Wildwood have a leash law?

A - Yes. Surprisingly, however, residents who like to take their dogs for walks without a leash can in certain portions of the City, but there are some responsibilities associated with that practice.  If a dog is not on a leash, it cannot be more than fifty (50) feet from the responsible person and must respond to his or her commands.  If the dog fails to obey such commands, trespasses onto private property, annoys any human or domestic animal, or enters an area where dogs are forbidden, then it is considered to be "at large" and in violation of the Section 205.030 "Animals at Large" of the City's Municipal Code.  This code applies to all pets, including cats.

However, this law is not applicable in City parks or on the trail corridors. The leash law for pets within park and trail corridors is governed by Section 235.040 of the City's Municipal Code. All dogs brought into or kept in a park area or trail corridor shall be on a leash of not more than six (6) feet in length. Additionally, the following regulations apply:

  1. No domestic animals will be allowed in any park, park facility, or trail corridor designated for swimming activities.

  2. Any person with a dog or other pet in their possession in any park or trail corridor shall be responsible for both the conduct of the animal and removal from the park or trail corridor of feces or other waste deposited by such animal.  The person with the dog or other pet must have in their possession the equipment required for pet waste removal.

  3. All persons shall be subject to the City of Wildwood's Health Code when on public property in terms of disposing of pet waste in a proper and accepted manner to control vectors, as stipulated herein.

For additional information on animals at large or animals creating a nuisance, please visit the City's Municipal code on-line at the link below:

This Week's Question of the Week...Noise Levels?

Q.  What is the noise and nuisance ordinance for Wildwood regarding  ATV's and motocross bikes?

A.  The City has a set of Zoning Performance Standards and they include the Noise Control Code. The code has a set of decibel levels that cannot be exceeded within residential areas for certain time periods and, if so, they are considered violations. Additionally, the Noise Control Code also has a provision that allows Code Enforcement Personnel, Public Health Officials, and the Police Department to act on a violation, regardless of levels and duration, if they determine it to be a nuisance. The exact wording of this provision is provided below:

"For the purposes of this Section, a noise not in violation of the parameters specified above constitutes a noise disturbance in violation of this Section when, in the reasonable discretion of St. Louis County Police Officers, public health officials, or Code Enforcement Officers, the noise constitutes an unreasonable interference with enjoyment of life, quiet, comfort or outdoor recreation of an individual or individuals of ordinary sensitivity or habits [who are] present at the time the noise is made. "

Therefore, if an activity is creating such a disturbance, it may be in violation due to its level of the sound, the duration of the sound, or the sound is determined to be a nuisance. These requirements would apply to motorcycles or all-terrain vehicles.

Picture of the Week
Fairway Elementary - Walk to School

On Tuesday, May 6th, over 300 students at Fairway Elementary, along with Mayor Tim Woerther, walked or rode their bikes to school. This photograph, taken by Department of Planning and Parks staff who participated in the event, shows a number of children and their parents along Waterside Drive.  Thank you to all that commute in the area and slowed down that morning.

This program was part of Trailnet's Safe Routes to School Program which seeks to promote children walking to school in groups with adult supervision.  Walking to school reduces morning traffic by about 25%. This results in less pollution, saves gas, and helps families get healthier.

It was inadvertently omitted that last week's 'Picture of the Week' on the Al Foster Trail was taken by David Lickerman.
Have You Ever Wondered? So Ask!

Submit your questions via email to Kathy Arnett. The answers will then be posted in future e-newsletters.
