| Well Water Testing Program |
 |
In an effort to encourage the testing of private wells within this community, the City of Wildwood is partnering with St. Louis County Department of Health - Environmental Health Laboratories in the collection and transportation of drinking water samples. The City will be keeping sample kits at City Hall for residents and, after collecting completed samples, will transport them to St. Louis County Health Offices in Clayton for testing.
To test the quality of your well water, please complete the following steps:
1. Pick up a sampling kit (including instructional information) at Wildwood City Hall.
2. Collect water sample, as outlined in the instructional form provided with kit.
3. Complete informational form provided with kit.
4. Bring sample, with completed form, to Wildwood City Hall on Mondays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
-
The City of Wildwood will deliver these kits to St. Louis County on Monday afternoons.
-
Remember: Samples must be transported within thirty (30) hours of their collection. Therefore, samples should be collected on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings.
5. Provide fee of $15.00 (cash or check) to City of Wildwood at time of drop off (checks must be payable to 'City of Wildwood'). St. Louis County requires two (2) days to complete testing. Results of testing will be mailed directly from the laboratory to the individual property owner.
If you have questions regarding the water collection process, or the testing completed on this sample, please contact the Environmental Health Laboratories - St. louis county at (314) 615-8324.
For questions regarding the City's portion of this process relative to payment and drop-off, please contact Joanna Browning at joanna@cityofwildwood.com. |

| Is That Allowed? Code Question of the Week... |
 |
Q. Can residents discharge the water from their sump pump into a storm sewer?
A. It is permissible to discharge the water from your sump pump into a nearby storm sewer, but the following requirements apply:
1.) the water is clean; not waste water
2.) the discharge does not create a nuisance on your lot or adjacent property owners
Many residents install a discharge pipe from their foundation wall to a storm sewer in one of three ways; they either connect it to the mouth of the inlet, stop it short, or punch a hole into the barrel of the inlet. If you install the discharge pipe to the inlet, be sure that is projects into the sewer a minimum of 3 inches, just enough so the water is accessing the sewer, but the pipe does not interfere with any debris that may get washed down into it. If you install a line to the sewer, but stop short, use a "pop up"; the problem with this installation is that the force of the water tends to wash out or erode the surface in front of the sewer creating another problem. A "pop up" will hold water in the pipe, until it is full, and then it will percolate out. Be sure that the earth is flush with the sill (mouth of the inlet), so that the water is getting into the sewer, and not just in front of it, to eliminate erosion. The third way, drilling a hole into the barrel of the inlet, is not legal. Therefore, nobody other than the sewer district should alter the storm sewer structure. |

| This Week's Question of the Week...Segways? |
 |
Q. Given the current gas prices, are Segway vehicles permitted? If so where can they be driven i.e. street or sidewalks? Any license or special related requirements? Thanks
A. Segways are considered motorized scooters, and because they cannot be licensed as vehicles, are not allowed on roadways or sidewalks. Motorized vehicles are only permissible on the trails with a medical permit.
The link below references the regulations for these types of vehicles:
