Breaking the tie

The Council Member candidates in Ward One, per the unofficial results, received the same number of votes. Now what happens?  According to the City Attorney...

The unofficial results for the April 2, 2019 election indicate that the candidates for the office of Council Member for Ward 1 received an equal number of votes. Should the St. Louis County Board of Elections certify the election results to reflect such a tie, State law dictates that the tie shall be resolved in one of the following ways: 1. The City calls a runoff election to determine a successful candidate; or 2. The candidates may agree to a drawing to determine the successful candidate. City Team Members will be coordinating next steps with the candidates and the St. Louis County Board of Elections in anticipation of receipt of the certified elections results.
