Route 109 MoDOT Project

June 1, 2020

The contractor has completed the striping Route 109 and opened all lanes to traffic.  The project is substantially complete, although a few areas remain that require establishment of ground cover.

December 9, 2019

The contractor has shifted traffic onto the new roundabouts and removed the signal from the south side of Route 100.  They will continue to work on the median areas and islands over the winter as weather allows.  Please use caution when traveling through the area.

October 29, 2019

The contractor has completed much of the roadway and wall construction on the west side of Route 109.  They plan to continue working on the roadway and the forming of the west half of the new bridge, with a bridge deck pour planned in mid-November, weather permitting.  If the weather allows, they hope to be able to shift traffic onto the new bridge and new roadway by the end of 2019.

September 25, 2019

The contractor is planning to shift traffic on to the newly constructed east half of the bridge deck tomorrow, weather permitting.  Once traffic is shifted, they will begin the demolition and construction of the remainder of the bridge.  They have also begun work on the retaining walls on the west side of the new pedestrian underpass and expect to complete that work in the next few weeks.  They will also continue working on the new pavement on the west side of Route 109.

September 5, 2019

The contractor has shifted traffic to the newly constructed pavement on the east side of Route 109 from south of the Route 100 bridge to the south limits of the project.  They have begun working on constructing the new pavement on the west side of Route 109 and will continue this work until the end of the year.  The are scheduled to pour the east half of the new bridge deck on September 6.  Following the bridge deck curing period, they will work on forming and pouring the bridge barrier walls and hope to be able to move traffic onto the east half of the new bridge in early October so they can begin construction of the west half of the new bridge.

August 12, 2019

The contractor has continued placing the new pavement on the east side of the project and begun working on the superstructure of the new bridge.  They will continue this work in August in preparation to shift traffic onto the new pavement in late August to allow construction of the west side of Route 109.

June 28, 2019

The contractor has been placing the new pavement on the east side of the project and working on the substructure of the new bridge.  They will continue this work in July in preparation to shift traffic onto the new pavement in early August to allow construction of the west side of Route 109.  The east half of the new pedestrian tunnel was installed and retaining wall construction along the new east trail approach to the tunnel is scheduled to be done in July.

June 3, 2019

The traffic shift was completed last week and the contractor is beginning work on the east side of the project.  Please use caution when driving through the project and allow additional time for your commute as the speed limit has been reduced through the work zone with the traffic shift in place.

May 29, 2019

Due to the rain this morning, the contractor has postponed the traffic shift until Thursday, May 30, weather permitting.

May 21, 2019

The contractor is scheduled to shift traffic to the west side of Route 109 on Wednesday, May 29, weather permitting.  There will be one lane in each direction on Route 109 and a temporary signal in place for access to the Route 100 entrance/exit ramps.  Cambury Lane, Hawthorne Village Parkway, and Main Street will remain open with access to Route 109 during this traffic configuration.  This traffic shift will allow the contractor to construct the east side of the new bridge and roadway and is expected to be in place until mid August.

April 29, 2019

MoDOT’s contractor, Gershenson Construction, is scheduled to begin this project on May 6, 2019.  On June 3, weather permitting, traffic is scheduled to be shifted to the west side of Route 109 to allow for construction of the east side of the new bridge and road.  Traffic is scheduled to be shifted onto the newly constructed east side of the bridge and roadway in early fall.  These are the anticipated times based on the contractor’s initial schedule and may change.  Any changes to the schedule will be updated by MoDOT and placed on the City website.  Please use caution when traveling through this improvement project.

Project Overview

This is a joint project with MoDOT to improve Route 109 from just north of Route 100 to Main Street. The project will replace the existing Route 109 bridge over Route 100, construct new roundabouts at Main Street and the eastbound ramps, construct a new pedestrian tunnel under Route 109, and widen Route 109 to extend the current four lane configuration from north of Route 100 to Main Street. Construction of this project is proposed to begin in 2019 and Route 109 will remain open for the entirety of the project.  Here is a link to the MoDOT website for this project.
