Al Foster Memorial Trail
Location
The Al Foster Memorial Trail is located near the intersection of Grand Ave. and Washington Ave. in the Glencoe Community. View our facility page for a location map. (225 Grand Avenue)
Length
The current trail length is five (5) miles (three (3) miles to Sherman Beach and another two (2) miles to Castlewood State Park).
Description
The trail is eight (8) foot wide and made of crushed stone. It is available for use by walkers, runners, and bicyclists. The trail generally follows the Meramec River from the Al Foster Trailhead in Glencoe to the east through Sherman Beach and into Castlewood State Park. It provides scenic views of bluffs forest, areas, and the Meramec River. View a map of the trail (PDF).
Parking
Parking is available at the Al Foster Memorial Trailhead (225 Grand Ave.) and Glencoe City Park (505 Washington).
Amenities
Restrooms, picnic tables, pavilions, and trash receptacles are available at the Al Foster Memorial Trailhead. There is no potable water at this location.
Trail Hours
Hours of operation are one-half hour before dawn to one-half hour after dusk.

Al Foster Memorial Trailhead
The Al Foster Memorial Trailhead is located just north of the Al Foster Memorial Trail. Currently there are restrooms, picnic tables, pavilions, trash receptacles and a parking lot. Please note, water is not available.
Glencoe City Park
Glencoe City Park is located 0.2 miles north of the Al Foster Memorial Trailhead (505 Washington). This park includes a playground facility, picnic amenities, a vault restroom facility and parking. Please note, water is not available.
WF&P Miniature Railroad
WF&P Miniature Railroad is located in close proximity to the trail and trailhead. This railroad system is a great way to experience and explore the area trail system.

- Numerous single track trail opportunities off of the Al Foster Trail in Castlewood State Park.
Future Plans
A future connection is planned to Route 66 State Park to the south and beyond Castlewood State Park to the east. When completed, the Al Foster Trail will become an official segment of the Ozark Trail which will extend from the confluence of the Meramec and Mississippi Rivers to the Arkansas/Missouri border.
