Pedestrian Bridge over Route 100

Pedestrian Bridge Updates:

August 8, 2017:

The pedestrian bridge was opened to pedestrians today. The contractor will still be doing some clean-up and miscellaneous items over the next few weeks, so please use caution when traveling in the area.

 July 11, 2017:

The structures have been set for both spans of the pedestrian bridge and the contractor is preparing to pour the concrete deck. They have scheduled to pour the North span deck on July 19 and the South span deck on July 26, weather permitting. There will still be some miscellaneous work to complete and the concrete will need to be cured prior to opening the bridge. The bridge is expected to be open to pedestrians by mid-August.

June 16, 2017:

The City’s Contractor, KCI, is ready to set the Pedestrian Bridge Truss Structures for the new pedestrian bridge over Route 100, just East of Route 109. Some night time closures of Route 100 will be necessary to complete this work. Following is the closure schedule, weather permitting:

East Bound Route 100 will be CLOSED from Route 109 to Taylor Road from 11:00 pm on Monday, June 26 until 3:00 am on Tuesday June 27.

 West Bound Route 100 will be CLOSED from Taylor Road to Route 109 from 1:00 am until 5:00 am on Tuesday, June 27.

During the closure periods motorists will be directed to use a signed detour route along Taylor Road to Manchester Road to Route 109. Electronic Message Boards were placed along EB and WB Route 100 yesterday to notify motorists of the upcoming closure and this information will be posted on the City Website. The Wildwood Precinct will provide assistance during the closures with officers at each of the closure points. This schedule is weather dependent and will be updated should any changes occur.

 June 8, 2017:

One span of the bridge structure arrived on the site today. The other span sections are expected to arrive over the next few weeks and the contractor will assemble the sections in the median to prepare for setting the structures. Setting the structures will involve night time closures of EB and WB Route 100. The exact date(s) have not been determined yet, but they anticipate setting the spans in late June or early July. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

 June 1, 2017:

The contractor has completed some of the approach trail work and will continue approach trail construction in early June. The bridge structure is expected to be delivered and installed in June. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

 May 1, 2017:

The contractor has completed the retaining walls on the north and south bridge approach areas will complete some of the approach trail work in May as the bridge structure is being fabricated. The bridge structure is expected to be delivered and installed in June. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

 February 24, 2017:

The contractor has completed the foundations for the new bridge and will continue constructing the retaining walls on the north and south bridge approach areas over the next few weeks as weather allows. The contractor will complete some of the approach trail work in March and April as the bridge structure is being fabricated. The bridge structure is expected to be delivered and installed in May. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

January 10, 2017:

The contractor has been constructing the retaining wall on the north bridge approach area has also began on the center bridge pier in the median of Route 100. Work will continue over the next few months as weather allows. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

December 14, 2016:

The contractor has began excavation work for the retaining wall on the north bridge approach area. They will begin installing the retaining wall over the next few weeks. Work has also began on the center bridge pier in the median of Route 100, and will continue over the next few months as weather allows. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass has been installed on the north bridge approach to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project.

December 2, 2016:

The contractor has began work on this project with clearing of the north and south bridge approach areas. They will begin working on the center bridge pier in the median of Route 100 in the next few weeks. Work will also begin on the retaining walls along the north and south bridge approach areas over the next month as weather allows. Please use caution when traveling through the work areas. A pedestrian bypass will be installed on the north bridge approach area as necessary to provide for continued pedestrian access during the project. A pedestrian bypass will not be necessary on the south side trail as the existing trail will remain in place for the duration of the project.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

This project will construct a new Pedestrian Bridge over Route 100, from the existing trail near the end of Kilare Lane on the south side of Route 100 to the existing trail near the end of Eatherton Road on the north side of Route 100. This project will begin in late 2016 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer of 2017.
