Watershed Erosion Task Force - Training Session - March 7, 2020

*** EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITY ***
ON STORMWATER RUNOFF AND EROSION
MARCH 7, 2020 @ 9:00 A.M.

On March 7, 2020, the Watershed Erosion Task Force will be conducting a three (3) hour training session for its members, and anyone from the public, who would like to attend to learn about a planned process to assess and record information about the condition of creeks and other water features located within the City. Again, this training opportunity is this Saturday, and it begins at 9:00 a.m. The class will be held at City Hall, with a trip to one (1) of the creek areas in Wildwood for field experience, as part of this stream training orientation. Given parking and access concerns associated with a large group, Anniversary Park may be the location of this field work.

The instructors of the training session will be Dr. David Hammer (a soil scientist, engineer, and geomorphologist) and Mark Meyer, who is the owner and principal of a local stormwater management firm called Intuition and Logic. These two (2) individuals have over seventy-five (75) years of collective experience in regard to dynamic hydrologic environments and how to assess them, record the information, and then use the data for next steps. Next steps in this case is understanding the extent of the erosion problems in Wildwood’s creeks and watersheds and then prioritizing them to address those situations that are threatening public infrastructure and certain private improvements, such as dwellings. This training session at City Hall will be livestreamed and recorded for future use.

Rural Internet Access Committee (RIAC) and Consultant
Complete Request for Proposals (RFP)

The City's Rural Internet Access Committee (RIAC) recently recommended to City Council that it should consider the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) that would seek responses from providers of high-speed internet services on how best to address this matter for the community. The Request for Proposals (RFP) was supported by City Council and ultimately prepared by CTC Technology & Energy, the same firm that had undertaken a review process on the best approaches for service extensions of high-speed internet access to the rural areas of Wildwood. On Thursday, January 2, 2020, the Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued. To review this document, please click on the following link - Internet Access Request for Proposals (RFP).

If you have any questions or comments about this Request for Proposals (RFP), or the earlier report of this consultant on the eight (8) approaches to extend high-speed internet to certain areas of this community, please contact the Department of Planning at (636) 458-0440. Responses will be accepted by the City of Wildwood through the closing date of April 3, 2020.

The Rural Internet Access Committee (RIAC) held its February 6, 2020 meeting, where the members reviewed the seven (7) letters of intent the City received regarding the Request for Proposals (RFP). The respondents that submitted letters of intent include the following: Bays ET, Design Nine, MetroNet, Spectrum, Ting, Utopia Fiber, and Wisper ISP. The City of Wildwood appreciates these companies' interest in this essential need and working toward solutions for full, high-speed internet service to all of this community.

Wildwood 2020 - Making Wildwood Better For You

“Wildwood 2020”

Mayor Bowlin announced his vision plan for the City of Wildwood during the City Council Work Session held on Monday, October 9, 2017.  The plan was developed based on input from residents and other stakeholders, and calls for improving residential experience and a renewed focus on the City’s original plans, said Mayor Bowlin.

“I’m very committed to things that benefit our residents and businesses, and there’s so much we can do to make Wildwood even better for them. My plan incorporates ways to make that happen with optimal cost efficiency,” said the Mayor. The plan includes several proposed projects that will benefit residents in all eight wards, along with implementation guidelines that include resident participation and input.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS UPDATE - Public Works

State Route 109/State Route 100 Intersection
Underway and Good Progress in All Areas ...

Work continues in earnest on this major road, bridge, and pedestrian improvement project at the center of the City. For more information, click on this link - State Route 109 Project.

Phase 1 - Completed.

Phase 2 – The contractor completed the new pavement areas on the west side of State Route 109, which led to the opening of both roundabouts, which are now situated south of State Route 100, on December 9, 2019. This changeover, and use of the roundabouts, appears to have made traffic flow much better through this area and will provide for safer travel in the vicinity. The contractor is continuing to complete flatwork relative to the two (2) new roundabouts, along with other safety improvements within the driving areas of State Route 109.

February 2020 – May 2020: More recently, the contractor has been completing trail and pedestrian improvements on either side of the right-of-way area, installing lighting and signage, and addressing on-going flatwork in association with the two (2) new roundabouts. As the project calendar moves into better weather conditions, additional work will include trail construction, bridge staining, girder painting, detention basin construction, landscaping, seeding, and sodding. The columns on the expanded State Route 109 bridge are taking shape and add a good bit of character to the span.

May 2020:  Project Completed.
This project has been in the planning, design, and engineering phases for over a year and is now underway. It is partially funded by grants, allowing Wildwood residents to obtain the most improvements for their taxpayer dollars. As with all construction projects, some inconvenience should be anticipated, so please slow down and remember safety first. Everyone benefits when we work together!

Manchester Road Streetscape - Phase 3 - Underway

The project's boundaries are from the Taylor Road Roundabout to Eatherton Road. Major improvements to the existing roadway include sidewalks and dedicated bicycle lanes. All utility relocations are complete.

The installation of stormwater improvements has been completed. Work is now shifting to the installation of flatwork for the new pedestrian improvements, access areas, and roadway enhancements. The City's contractor (Gershenson Construction) continues to make progress on all fronts.

Thereafter, other phases of the project will then begin in their planned sequences and cause certain delays on Manchester Road, through their construction cycles as well. This work is scheduled to minimize delays, but inevitably traffic flow in this project area will be slow at certain times due to the nature of the work.

E-Newsletter – An Excellent Way To Be ‘In the Know’

The City of Wildwood would like to thank all of the subscribers to the e-newsletter for your interest in receiving it and hopes you find this weekly publication to be very informative and interesting.  It has been a major goal of the City to enhance citizen communications and input, and it hopes the e-newsletter has been an effective communication tool. However, the City is only reaching a small portion of the population and would like to reach many more of our citizens.  While not everyone wishes to receive yet another weekly e-mail, it is likely many citizens are unaware that the City’s weekly e-newsletter exists. Therefore, the City is asking for your assistance in sharing this opportunity to stay informed about Wildwood.  The following link will take you directly to the Subscription Section of the City Website: www.cityofwildwood.com/list.aspx. Through this link, you can subscribe to the weekly e-newsletter, as well as sign up for Traffic & Weather Alerts, News Flashes, and many other City notifications.

The City would also ask that you forward this notice to friends and family, or share through social media sites, and let’s see if we can grow our subscriber base and keep the citizens of our great community well-informed. Thank you!

SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING

Since August 2019, Waste Connections has been the hauler for all residential properties in the City of Wildwood, which also has included the return of single-stream recycling. Single-stream recycling allows residents to place all recyclable materials in a single container for curbside pickup by the hauler. Waste Connection accepts glass, as part of the new recycling stream, so it can be placed in the toters for pickup. Any questions on recycling can be addressed by visiting the Waste Connections website, which can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.wasteconnections.com.

The City of Wildwood and Waste Connections have also retained two (2) of the locations that were made available as additional options for the drop-off of extra fiber materials and glass:

> Anniversary Park - 16511 Clayton Road (63011)
> Terminus of Wildwood Avenue,
between City Hall and the B&B Theatre (63040).

If you have any other questions, please contact us at recycling@cityofwildwood.com or visit the recycling page of our website: Recycling Information.
