NEW MEETING RULES IN PLACE AS OF MARCH 23, 2020

City Hall Hours - City of Wildwood

Since March 26, 2020, it is requested that everyone needing to conduct business at City Hall do so by email, telephone, video-conference (staff can set it up), or, if necessary, appointment only. Please refer to the Staff Directory (https://www.cityofwildwood.com/1865/Staff-Directory) for contact information. Additionally, a number of employees are working from home, so there may be a delay in getting back to you. Staffing changes are planned over the next month, with a mid-June timeline for full public service. Thank you for your understanding and patience, as we do our part in helping to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

WILDWOOD VIRTUAL TRIVIA NIGHT - JUNE 10, 2020

Gather the gang and join us for a Virtual Community Trivia Night with your Wildwood friends and neighbors!!
 
Please join us at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, to compete with your friends and neighbors in the first ever Virtual Community Trivia Night! If you have one (1) of the top three (3) scores at the end of the night, you’ll win a prize!!

We’ll get together via ZOOM and everyone will play trivia by visiting a website to see and respond to questions. Here’s some more information that is important:

•   The questions will be general knowledge, family friendly, but geared towards adults.

•    The format will allow a single individual to play, but we encourage you to gather your family to play! The more the merrier ... and smarter?

•   The City would recommend you have two (2) handy devices to play (computer, tablet, or smart phone) - 1st device will be used to join us via Zoom and - 2nd device will be used to respond to trivia questions.

•   Those families or groups in one location should only use one screen and enter one answer to play trivia (rather than everyone in the group playing on their own devices), just like in-person trivia!

•  The game is set up so, when you register, you’ll receive more instructions and links to join ZOOM and the online trivia game.

25th Anniversary of the City of Wildwood - 1995 to 2020

On September 1, 2020, the City of Wildwood will be 25 years old. Many activities and events were planned throughout the year to celebrate this milestone, which have had to be postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic, but City officials are hoping by the Fall of this year, the Celebrate Wildwood Event can be held to recognize this quarter-century birthday.

The City of Wildwood has partnered with a company that will offer all kinds of merchandise recognizing the City's 25th Anniversary, which can be purchased online by clicking on this link - Wildwood Gear 25th Anniversary Edition. These items include t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, stickers, kid’s clothes, and more! Due to a temporary reduction in personnel because of COVID-19, Waste Connections may be one (1) day behind on picking up yard waste in the coming weeks. Please leave it out at your regularly scheduled time and Waste Connections will pick up on the scheduled day, or the day after, including working on Saturdays, if needed.  If you feel your street or address has been missed for more than two (2) days, please contact Waste Connections at (636) 321-2100 or wcmissouri@wasteconnections.com.

COVID-19 Operational Procedures and Information

On Monday, June 1, 2020, St. Louis County Executive Sam Page announced that all remaining businesses previously prohibited from re-opening may now begin steps to re-open this month (June), as long as they comply with St. Louis County’s Public Health Order and guidelines/protocols provided it. In Wildwood, bars will begin to re-open on June 8, 2020. Movie theaters, conference and banquet centers, and gyms and fitness centers will all begin to re-open on June 15, 2020.  After that date, all businesses in St. Louis County will be allowed to begin re-opening. As you begin to consider re-visiting businesses, please be safe, be careful, and, always remember, shop local.

There is helpful information for residents and businesses, including: local restaurant information; impact on parks, trails, and events; public meeting modifications; links to health organizations; and lots more! Given the importance of accurate and timely information about current conditions, the City of Wildwood's e-newsletter will limit its dissemination of information to those links of specific governments and agencies that are responsible for the safety and well-being of us all during this health emergency. iPads Wanted for COVID-19 Patients and their Families

The Wildwood Area Lions Club is collecting used iPads to distribute to local hospitals. Your donation will help patients stay connected to their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If possible, the device should be cleaned, factory reset, and placed in a zip lock bag, with a viable power cord and the signed release form.

Unfortunately, no any other types of tablets, laptops, or smart phones can be accepted. All iPads must also be in good working condition, with no cracks on the screen.

The Wildwood Area Lions Club also has a donation box at Wildwood City Hall, if you would prefer to drop off your donated iPad.

PARKING LOTS HAVE OPENED @ ALL TRAILHEADS

On April 28, 2020, Mayor Jim Bowlin, in consultation with our Police Captain, City Administrator and Director of Planning & Parks, re-opened all of the parking lots at the following trails:

• Al Foster Memorial Trailhead,

• Bluff View Park, 

• Glencoe City Park, 

• John L. LeCave Trailhead, and 

This action is being taken pursuant to Resolution 2020-11, which was recently passed by the City Council giving Mayor Bowlin the authority to make decisions necessary to promote the safety of and protect Wildwood residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City will continue to monitor the degree and manner of usage of our parks and related facilities, and take additional measures, as may be warranted, to promote the safety of our residents.

Closures of Park Facilities as of June 6, 2020

All Streets in the Glencoe Area (around Glencoe City Park and Al Foster Memorial Trailhead and Trail) remain posted "No Parking." This restriction includes Washington Avenue, Grand Avenue, and 3rd Street; and

All Restrooms, All Pavilions, All Playgrounds, and the City's Dog Park remain closed, until further notice.

RALLY FOR RETAIL IN WILDWOOD

In partnership with its local businesses, the City is launching a new “Rally for Retail” Campaign to help support Wildwood retailers during the current environment.
 
Pure By Jen, a local Wildwood boutique, recommended this new effort in order to encourage community members to virtually “shop” at their favorite local brick-and-mortar stores by purchasing GIFT CARDS. Purchasing these online gift cards now will help to keep as many Wildwood retailers as possible in business, so that they can reopen their doors, when this crisis passes.

Takeout Tuesdays in Wildwood

As part of its new community outreach efforts due to the COVID-19 crisis, City Team Members are posting weekly campaigns on the City’s social media pages for “Takeout Tuesdays” (encouraging residents to pick up curbside and delivery) and “Rally for Retail Thursdays” (encouraging residents to purchase gift cards from local businesses). City officials will continue to post these reminders throughout the season.

Find yourself cooking more these days? Now is the perfect time to submit your recipes for the City’s 25th Anniversary Community Cookbook. The cookbook will be offered digitally, for free, at the end of the year. It’s as easy as completing a short form and uploading a photo of the recipe. Recipes can be submitted via: Community-Cookbook-Recipe-Submittal-Form. We’ve organized the months into themes, or sections, but will accept any type of recipe all year.

+++ New Option for Internet Service +++
Rural Areas of Wildwood

With the internet taking the forefront of many people's lives over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Wildwood has received some very positive news from a local internet provider it has been working with since 2013. This company, Bays ET, now has access to AT&T's LTE Network, after a lengthy effort by Bays ET to obtain this opportunity. What does this mean for residents needing access to the high-speed internet? A LOT!
 
The access to this nationwide network is for internet only, and via a hotspot in your home, it provides a stronger signal that is more reliable and has greater coverage than any of the two (2) wireless providers can offer at this time - including the current Bays ET network. The speeds are to be 15 mbps download and 2 mbps upload and offered as a single package on a per month basis, on a much more robust network of improvements. 
 
The new service will not only assist with the most affected areas Mayor Jim Bowlin has been pursuing to initiate service during the COVID-19 situation under Emergency Resolution 2020-11, but also significantly more of our rural areas beyond that list.

“Wildwood 2020”

Mayor Bowlin announced his vision plan for the City of Wildwood during the City Council Work Session held on Monday, October 9, 2017.  The plan was developed based on input from residents and other stakeholders, and calls for improving residential experience and a renewed focus on the City’s original plans, said Mayor Bowlin. 

“I’m very committed to things that benefit our residents and businesses, and there’s so much we can do to make Wildwood even better for them. My plan incorporates ways to make that happen with optimal cost efficiency,” said the Mayor. The plan includes several proposed projects that will benefit residents in all eight wards, along with implementation guidelines that include resident participation and input.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS UPDATE - Public Works

Manchester Road Streetscape - Phase 3 - Underway

Road Closure Began on Monday, June 1, 2020
Eatherton Road Bridge Replacement Project
(Located between State Route 109 and Wildwood Horse Creek Road)

The City of Wildwood began work on this long-awaited improvement project to replace the Eatherton Road Bridge over Bonhomme Creek. The project will replace the existing sub-standard bridge, between State Route 109 and Wild Horse Creek Road (State Route CC), with a new bridge structure that consists of two (2), eleven (11) foot driving lanes, with four (4) foot shoulders.

Eatherton Road is CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC at the bridge location (about 750 feet north of Orrville Road), which began at 7:00 a.m. on June 1, 2020, and is expected to remain closed through August 28, 2020, for the duration of bridge construction.  Eatherton Road will remain open during construction for local traffic to access Orrville Road, from State Route 109, or to access Eatherton Valley Road or Bonhomme Creek Road, from Wild Horse Creek Road.  Detour signs and other advance warning signs will be in place during construction to assist motorists around the construction area.

Wildwood Yoga & Wellness will be using ZOOM for these classes. Wildwood Yoga & Wellness will send out a link for your registered class. You can download Zoom here -  https://zoom.us/download - or the instructor will send you the link and it will prompt you to download the program. Also, please remember that if you cannot not attend the class LIVE, you still can still sign up and a recorded link will be forwarded to you for the class, which is valid for twenty-four (24) hours.

This class is FREE for Wildwood residents, and only $5.00 for non-residents, age 60+!

The class will use chairs and other props to ensure that the benefits of yoga are accessible to students of varying degrees of strength, balance, and flexibility. Seniors will practice basic yoga poses, while exploring the openness that comes with combining breath with movement. All classes are taught by Certified Yoga Instructors.

The Wildwood Family YMCA will reopen as soon as we are safely allowed to do so following guidelines from public health officials.
 
For more than 175 years, the YMCA has adapted our mission to address new challenges, as they arise. Today, our community is confronted with a new challenge and the Gateway Region YMCA, our association, is again stepping up by:

• Transitioning several of our facilities to provide emergency child care for essential personnel, so that they can continue their focus on public health and caring for our neighbors in need - https://gwrymca.org/emergency-child-care.
• Partnering with the St. Louis Area Foodbank for emergency food donations. Drop offs to the barrel on front of our building can be done weekdays between 8:00 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Oh, by the way, you can help too! Many of you who live along the City's system of creeks, drainageways, and/or floodplains should have received a survey asking for your input about these conditions. The members of this Task Force need this information to develop its plan, with steps and solutions. To report a problem on your property, or near you, and complete the form, please click on this link: https://www.cityofwildwood.com/formcenter/watershed-erosion-task-force-20/erosion-reporting-form-122. This information will help the task force as its members work toward understanding the extent of problems, priority areas, and fixes for the future. For the latest information on upcoming meetings of the task force, please check the City's on-line calendar for the latest cancellations and scheduling news.

Many residents have reported issues with stormwater runoff and erosion, with the numerous storm events the City has experienced this past spring and summer. These reports range from water in backyard areas, to overflowing ditches and creeks, to impassable roadways. The City is attempting to understand all of these concerns. Along with addressing and/or responding to these issues, the City Council formed a Watershed Erosion Task Force to study causes, identify issues, and develop a plan to address them in the future.

SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING

Since August 2019, Waste Connections has been the hauler for all residential properties in the City of Wildwood, which also has included the return of single-stream recycling. Single-stream recycling allows residents to place all recyclable materials in a single container for curbside pickup by the hauler. Waste Connection accepts glass, as part of the new recycling stream, so it can be placed in the toters for pickup. Any questions on recycling can be addressed by visiting the Waste Connections website, which can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.wasteconnections.com.

The City of Wildwood and Waste Connections have also retained two (2) of the locations that were made available as additional options for the drop-off of extra fiber materials and glass:

Available at City Hall - Main Street Level - Lobby Area

Bring your expired/unused prescription medications to City Hall during normal business hours (Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and deposit them in the take-back box. There is no need for any assistance from the police. This easy and safe approach keeps old or unused medications from the environment and out of the hands of children.

Thanks to everyone who has donated shoes, boots, and sandals to the Shoeman Water Project over the years. It appears the organization is no longer operational, but the City of Wildwood has not received confirmation of such. Therefore, the collection boxes have been temporialy removed from City Hall. As soon as the City is aware of the circumstances, it will advised via the e-newsletter.

American Flag Disposal

The City of Wildwood accepts retired American flags for dignified disposal. Please bring worn flags to City Hall, 16860 Main Street, and leave them with the receptionist. All flags collected will be relinquished to the Boy Scouts of America for proper disposal. US Flags should never be placed in the trash.
